cdgh3_v1 | Supplying the Army of Mehmed the Conqueror. A Comparison between the Asian Campaign of 1473 and the Moldavian Campaign of 1476 | Since the first detailed administrative sources on the provisioning operations of the Ottoman army date back to the sixteenth century, the reconstruction of the circumstances, the mechanisms, and the strategies of the Ottoman supply machinery in the age of Mehmed the Conqueror is particularly difficult to undertake, because it requires reading, comparing, and contextualizing sources from diverse cultural backgrounds. The present survey puts forward a comparative case study of the Ottoman supply experiences during two important campaigns of the sultan Mehmed II, the one against Uzun Hasan in 1473 and the one against Stephen the Great in 1476. Keywords: Mehmed the Conqueror, Uzun Hasan, Stephen the Great, supply trains, supply lines, local provisioning. | 2025-01-19T21:48:24.650243 | 2025-01-19T23:39:00.583621 | 2025-01-19T23:38:38.467147 | 2022-08-31T21:00:00 | bodoarxiv | 1 | accepted | 1 | 1 | https://doi.org/10.34055/osf.io/cdgh3 | CC-By Attribution 4.0 International | Anatolia; Balkans; Mehmed the Conqueror; Moldavia; Ottomans; Stephen the Great; Sultan Mehmed II; Uzun Hasan; Wallachia; local provisioning; medieval Balkans; medieval conflicts; medieval war; military history; social history; supply trains; war | ["Anatolia", "Balkans", "Mehmed the Conqueror", "Moldavia", "Ottomans", "Stephen the Great", "Sultan Mehmed II", "Uzun Hasan", "Wallachia", "local provisioning", "medieval Balkans", "medieval conflicts", "medieval war", "military history", "social history", "supply trains", "war"] | Andrei Mirea | [{"id": "n2u7q", "name": "Andrei Mirea", "index": 0, "orcid": "0009-0002-9287-8509", "bibliographic": true}] | Andrei Mirea | Areas or Regions; Medieval Studies; Society and Culture; Armies and Warfare; Eastern Mediterranean; Art and Architecture; Law; East Central Europe; Medievalism; Time Periods; South Eastern Europe; Politics; Economy and Trade; Religion; 16th Century; 15th Century; 14th Century; Digital Scholarship | [{"id": "5c9129759141520017f39f58", "text": "Areas or Regions"}, {"id": "5c9129759141520017f39f59", "text": "Medieval Studies"}, {"id": "5c9129759141520017f39f5e", "text": "Society and Culture"}, {"id": "5c9129759141520017f39f5f", "text": "Armies and Warfare"}, {"id": "5c9129759141520017f39f61", "text": "Eastern Mediterranean"}, {"id": "5c9129759141520017f39f62", "text": "Art and Architecture"}, {"id": "5c9129759141520017f39f63", "text": "Law"}, {"id": "5c9129759141520017f39f66", "text": "East Central Europe"}, {"id": "5c9129759141520017f39f68", "text": "Medievalism"}, {"id": "5c9129759141520017f39f6c", "text": "Time Periods"}, {"id": "5c9129769141520017f39f72", "text": "South Eastern Europe"}, {"id": "5c9129769141520017f39f79", "text": "Politics"}, {"id": "5c9129769141520017f39f7d", "text": "Economy and Trade"}, {"id": "5c9129769141520017f39f81", "text": "Religion"}, {"id": "5c9129769141520017f39f8a", "text": "16th Century"}, {"id": "5c9129769141520017f39f8b", "text": "15th Century"}, {"id": "5c9129769141520017f39f8c", "text": "14th Century"}, {"id": "5eeb905d0a7f38104c46b8cc", "text": "Digital Scholarship"}] | https://osf.io/download/678d73d39eeea41f4edd65f6 | 0 | not_applicable | not_applicable | [] | 2025-04-09T21:06:23.200644 |
